THE PLAN: The meeting place is Pugneys Country Park in Wakefield, West Yorkshire. Riders should try to arrive at Pugneys before 10am in the morning of Sunday 22nd of August for the ride to Whitby. The ride itself will take in some breathtaking views via A-roads across the North Yorkshire Moors. There will be various stops and pick-up points along the way including Goathland or 'Aidensfield' as the place is perhaps more commonly known in the TV series Heartbeat. If you decide to meet up for the ride or want to make your own way there, then the rendezvous point will be the harbour in Whitby.

THE RIDE: The proposed route from Wakefield covers a distance of approximately 80 miles and is as follows: Depart at 10am from Pugneys Country Park, Wakefield (this is the starting point of the ride to Whitby). Pugneys Country Park is located on the A636 in between Wakefield and Junction 39 of the M1 (off Denby Dale Road).

We will then leave Wakefield via the A636 heading out towards Stanley, Garforth then Barwick in Elmet. We will then travel via the A64 and our first pick up point along the way will be at 'The Highwayman Café' (at approx. 11am) for riders joining us in the York area. We will then proceed via the A64 then the A169 for Pickering followed by a scenic ride over the North York Moors.

The next stop-off point before Whitby will be Goathland. There will be a short break here for photo's etc. before the last stretch of the journey to Whitby. At Whitby, we will try to park up at the 'Scotch Head Bandstand' (parking space permitting) on the West Side of the harbour.

The journey back to Wakefield will be the same route but in in reverse. Departure time from Whitby will be mid to late afternoon. Expected time of arrival back in Wakefield by will be early evening.

PRECAUTIONS: Owners of 50cc scoots and scooters with a small fuel capacity would be advised to bring extra fuel. All riders are advised to fuel-up before the ride commences. Please bring some spare oil if you think you will be needing it. Stops will be made so that riders can re-fuel / let their scooters cool down along the way. Riders who's scooters run on Shell Optimax (e.g. 172cc kitted Runners and Dragsters) are advised to take some Putoline Octane Booster with them if Super Unleaded or Shell Optimax fuel is unavailable.

Is your scooter fast enough? Over the course of the journey, depending on the legal speed limits, the average cruising speed will be approximately 50 to 60mph so please bear this in mind if you have a 50cc scooter and are wondering if it will be fast enough to keep up with the group. Some allowances will be made to keep the group together of course and ensure that riders arrive at Whitby safely.

The North Yorkshire Police have been informed about the ride to Whitby, so this will hopefully ensure that we are not interrupted along the way, as long as everyone is riding sensibly and considerately. So please bear this in mind.
