OCTOBER 2001

26/10/01 : Danish company Dynomet have built a portable dyno, the Dynomet 'Mini' works along the same principle as other dyno's, but is compact and mobile and thus is easy to find room for in the workshop or transported in the boot of a car. With the Dynomet 'Mini' you can check hp, kW and torque on automatic scoots and bikes up to 80hp. The unit itself was originally developed for the Ministry of Transport for the purpose of spot checking new automatics and smaller (34hp) motorbikes. Check out the Dynomet website for more details.

24/10/01 : Frank at Nikon Performance Exhausts in Luton (+44 01582 584188) informs me that they are now selling their own brand of pipes for the Dragster 125 / 180 (which will also fit the Gilera Runner 125 / 180, the pipes are completely hand-made, weigh less than 2kg and by all accounts give a 10% (or more) power increase, price is £155. You can see what it looks like here.

23/10/01 : A rough guide to exhausts is now on-line, you'll find this under the tuning section, this is still a work in progress however and will be improved and updated on a continual basis (as with the other tuning sections). Thanks to everyone who has contributed so far.

22/10/01 : To add to last weeks engine news, MB Developments say that the likelihood is that a 200cc conversion will become available as opposed to the 210 since the barrel has to be iron linered before being ceramic plated (costs £150 for each process) - all in all, a no expense spared job. The 200cc conversion therefore will be more of a crank swap bolt-on kit.

Sprinting news, a five-round sprinting tournament is being planned for next year... more news of this to follow.

19/10/01 : Engine news, MB Developments (01709 869 756) in Doncaster are developing a 210cc engine for the Runner/Dragster. At the moment it's a one-off commision and will be going to an Austrian dealer who's gonna put the engine in a Dragster and try to break a world record. For more info and pictures check out the MB Developments website.

Meanwhile, Sidlesham Common Carriage in Chichester (01243 641242) are currently developing the first Nitrous kit for automatic scoots, at present the kit is being tested on a Speedfight 100. If the kit is successful off-the-shelf NOS kit's will be made available.

18/10/01 : Big news, next year's Santa Pod 'hijack' is set for Saturday August 2nd which gives all you people plenty of time to get sorted for next year's big drag racing event. Stuart Owen at 100-mph Lambretta.com is the brains behind all this in conjunction with Santa Pod who have agreed to make the day a scooter only event. We'll have more information about the event soon, but in the meantime be sure to jot down 'Santa Pod Hijack' in yer diaries - August 2nd 2002, not to be missed...

17/10/01 : Bad news, my hard drive died yesterday and as a consequence all my email was lost along with approximately two gigabytes worth of data, so anyone still waiting for a reply from me will need to re-send any previous email. Also, could Mattias Fogelqvist and Jansen Sorin please get in touch, thanks.

11/10/01 : Just a reminder, Mike K (aka fstop) has set-up a Dragster message board as a temporary solution until I install a new one on this here site. So in the meantime if you have any questions, gripes or problems that you need to get off your chest, then head on over there and let's kick-start the discussion.

10/10/01 : A number of new carbon fibre parts are due for release over the period December 2001- April 2002. These parts are taken from a prototype Dragster called 'Full Metal Jacket' a project undertaken by Rage Composites for and on behalf of Jasscooters. In time virtually all the plastic panels on the Dragster should become available to purchase in carbon fibre. Rage Composites use Formula 1 and aerospace technology in the production of their products to ensure top quality. The materials used are proper carbon fibre resins and are oven cooked for strength. The front mudguard has already been tested (by hitting it with a sledge hammer) and all that happened was the gel coat chipped slightly. There are some really good looking weaves being used and when the panels have been tested they will be released for production but initially in small quantities however. Apart from looking well cool, the other main advantage is the weight reduction which is another advantage for racing purposes. Jasscooters will be the only supplier of these carbon fibre products.

09/10/01 : To add to yesterday's braking news Ivan at Extreme Sports Russia recommends Malossi MHR (Hyper Racing) series brake pads (part number: 62 11521). These will fit front and rear calipers for the Dragster 50/125/180 and also provide better stopping power like the sintered pads mentioned yesterday.

08/10/01 : One of the main criticisms with the Dragster is the braking or rather, lack of braking particularly at the front wheel. Aswell as opting for some Goodridge brake lines and Dot 5 brake fluid how about some sintered brake pads? Chiselspeed have some of these in stock price £16.95, well worth fitting in my opinion. Sorted for stoppie's hopefully...

Jasscooters inform me that around 19/10/01 they'll have some specially made 15 watt halogen headlamp bulbs in stock for the Dragster 50, and these bulbs are reputed to be much brighter than standard.

04/10/01 : October's issue of the Dutch scooter mag Scootin' includes a feature on Maurice Matulessy's cool custom Drag. Thanks to Marcel over at scooter.startpunt.nu for this bit of info. Maurice (if you're reading this) Marcel would like you to get in touch with him:

"Wil Maurice Matulessy een email sturen naar scooter@startpunt.nu, in verband met de Italjet Dragster in maandblad Scootin' Oktober. Meer Perso dragsters zijn te vinden op scooter.startpunt.nu."

Mike K aka 'fstop' has also set up a Dragster message board as a temporary solution (until I get my act together and install a new one)... So in the meantime head on over to Mike's message board. Cheers for sorting this Mike.

Also worth a mention is the Malossi 172 Club which is a Yahoo club and is open to anyone with a Malossi 172cc kitted engine. This list has been pretty active from what I gather and worth checking out for more in-depth technical banter.
