MAY 2004

27/05/04 : Head on over to the offical X-Race UK website for all the results and a race report from the last sprint meeting at Santa Pod. I also have some good news! The Italjet Dragster.com 'Members Gallery' is back! A big thanks to Dave Williamson (aka divuk) for sorting out the hosting (Italjet Dragster.net) where this gallery can be found. Unfortunately since the gallery software has had to be re-installed this means that you will have to re-register, but the good news is you can once again upload your own scooter pics for all to see! The Members Gallery can be found here.

THE WHITBY RUN – SUNDAY 22nd AUGUST 2004

After last year’s The London Run which saw 50 or so auto owners go on a ride through central London, you’ll pleased to know that a ride-out to the historic coastal town of Whitby on the East coast is being organised this year. A trip to the seaside! What could be better?!

Scooterists are invited to meet up in Wakefield, West Yorkshire in the morning of Sunday 22nd of August for the ride to Whitby. The ride itself will take in some breathtaking views via A-roads across the North York Moors. There will be various stops and pick-up points along the way including Goathland or ‘Aidensfield’ as the place is perhaps more commonly known as in the TV series Heartbeat. If you decide to meet up for the ride or want to make your own way there, then the rendezvous point will be the harbour in Whitby - who can resist a trip to the coast?!

The Whitby Run is being organised by Italjet Dragster.com with the help of Lee Ellis from the Northern Scooter Club. Precise details about this event to follow, but if you have any questions or queries in the meantime then feel free to send me an email.

24/05/04 : Yesterday was Round 2 of the X-Race UK drag racing championship. The conditions were hot and a few good times were set. The attendance was pretty good, but it's a shame the same can't be said about the organisation at Santa Pod. Two hour waits to get one run up the strip was frankly ridiculous, the main reason for this was the pro drag cars (e.g. 6000bhp Dragsters) being given priority. But it being a public RWYB (Run What Ya Brung) day after all, you'd have thought the management would have let the public have their chance to race. Consequently, travelling 300 miles to get two runs (in my case) up the strip really takes the p**s. And it's sad to say that if things don't improve at Round 6 at Santa Pod in September (the next round at The Pod), it may well be that the X-Race Championship will, in future, only take place at Straightliners meetings. Also, most of the attendees at this meeting consisted of the regular 'hardcore' racers who normally participate at X-Race rounds so this round being in the south actually made very little difference in attracting more racers from the south. Where were you?! Results and a full race report from Round 2 to follow...

FOR SALE:

Graeme Jones has informed me about a rather nice Gilera Runner that's for sale in the Kent / Felixstowe area, the owner is the same guy who Graeme bought the V&M Runner from - Julian Talcon. By all accounts this "Fortuna Runner" 125 VX looks really good according to Graeme. The paintjob was done by excelpaintwork.com and the scoot also has a few other nifty features. Only 70 miles on the clock, £1700. The owner (Julian Talcon) can be contacted on: 01502 713777
