JUNE 2005

20/06/05 : THE WHITBY RUN 2005

The full details about this year's Whitby Run can now be found on-line here. Recent developments are that TAG (formerly Twist & Go Scooter Magazine) will be attending this year's Whitby Run, so I believe there will be a few freebies being handed out courtesy of TAG.

On the way to Whitby, like last year we will be stopping at Goathland (also known as 'Aidensfield' in the TV series 'Heartbeat'), and this year we will be meeting Whitby S.C. once again, this time at Goathland where we will also be inviting other scooter clubs from Scarborough, Pickering, Redcar and Middlesborough to meet up with us at Goathland for the final leg of the journey and the proposed mass swoop into Whitby. So at the moment, the event is shaping up quite nicely.

Don't forget that this event is also the first official ride-out of the up-and-coming National auto scooter club: F.A.S.T. (Federation of Auto Scooterists). So if you only go on one ride-out this year, don't miss out on this one!

16/06/05 : ITALJET - A NEW HOPE

Blue Energy in Bologna, Italy have managed to find a new distributor for the supply of Italjet spares: Harglo-Performance in Gloucestershire.

Harglo-Performance are part of the Watsonian-Squire Group who are also the sole UK Royal Enfield bike and spares distributor. Watsonian have been going since 1912 and took on Harglo in 1994. During the mid-to-late 1990s Harglo introduced and imported Malaguti scooters to the UK, and by all accounts they were successful with bike sales and built a thriving parts business on that. Alas, the market became much more difficult for them in the early 2000s, so they passed on the complete Malaguti scooter and parts business to Moore Large & Co. Malaguti has of course since been passed on to E.P. Barrus.

Anyway, Massimo Tartarini at Blue Energy has indicated 80-90% availability of parts, so with Harglo-Performance now stepping in there's hope for us existing Italjet scooter owners. The question on everyone's lips though is, how long will it take to obtain replacement parts? Well Alan Collins, Spare Parts Manager at Harglo-Performance anticipates the average delivery time of most parts to be around one month. "We're feeling our way into the Italjet parts business slowly" he says, "having not been involved or sold Italjets in the past, we don't quite have the technical background we've built for Malaguti scooters. But, we will provide whatever technical help we can".

Harglo-Performance already deal with customers worldwide for Franco Morini Engines and kids bike bits, so they're happy to supply Italjet parts globally. You can contact them by phone on 01386 701162 or by fax on 01386 700738. Or via their website at www.harglo-performance.com
