JULY 2001

26/07/01 : On September 23rd there will be an NSA (National Sprint Association) sprint at Santa Pod and there will be a scooter class. This will be a closed meeting i.e just for sprinting bikes (no cars). It is advisable that you pre-enter but you will get six runs for this atleast. It will be an ACU (Auto Cycle Union) event so there will be certain clothing regulations, bike checks (road worthiness) etc. Hopefully there will be trophies put up again and anyone is welcome to enter. We'll have a more detailed description on what's involved and what you need to do soon. In the mean-time if there is anything you want to know you can email Stuart Owen at 100-mph-lambretta.com with any questions you may have.

25/07/01 : The 'Tuning' section has been updated to include a walkthrough guide for de-restricting a 50cc Dragster. We'll have more of these guide's for other tuning matters in the future.

24/07/01 : Joe Elliot had a few parts to sell while at the scooter shoot-out at Santa Pod, so if you're interested in some second-hand stuff here's what Joe has for sale. Also check out the latest batch of Dragster pics added to the Gallery, we're now onto 'Collection 7'! When will it all end?!

23/07/01 : Pictures from the Pod are here! Okay, so I forfeited a day's drag racing at Santa Pod so that I could walk around with a camera taking pictures all day. But it was worth it, I got some good shots, check out the Gallery!

16/07/01 : Go to 'Run Wot Ya Brung' at Santa Pod and you'll be treated to a visual feast of souped-up two and four wheeled vehicles, the smell of burning rubber and a cacophony of roaring engine noise - music to your ears... Yesterday's unofficial scooter sprint competition could be considered a taster of what's to come in the drag race fraternity with the introduction of the new 'Automatic' class. Star of the new scoots was none other than Joe Elliot who came first place on his 25bhp Dragster 180 running the quarter mile in 14.744 @ 82.4mph, not his fastest time to date but enough to clinch the trophy. Technically Joe would've got second place too with a 14.88 after taking a test ride on PM Tuning's splendid 'Equinox' Runner under the watchful eye o' course of Mr. Paul Melici. Marred by his weight disadvantage Paul had a taste of the action and ran the quarter mile on the Equinox in the late 16's. Early 16's and we see a 21bhp Aprilia SR50 (fitted with a Malossi 172cc engine) cross the finish line at 16.46 (76.62mph) thus winning second place. Owners of Runner's and Speedfight's could also be seen competing during the course of the day. Stuart Owen ended a successful day's racing with a broken gearbox but managed to win first place in the Lambretta sprint class with a 13.39 @ 96.8 mph. Torn between racing my Dragster in it's current 'unstable' state (lame excuse I know) or photographing the day's events, I opted for the latter but all being well I'll be ready to race next season.

Pictures of the event to follow...

09/07/01 : Round 6 of Streetfighters Straightliners took place at Elvington yesterday where I had the chance to meet up with 'scooter sprint chief' Stuart Owen who was achieving some admirable times over the 100mph mark on his highly-tuned Lambretta. Stuart's one of the instigator's of the scooter shoot-out competition which looms ever closer this Sunday at Santa Pod. A reminder to all you people wanting to race - don't forget your Driver's Licence which you will need when signing-on. The aim is to see as many of you scooter owners down there just having a go. And if your mates have got scooters too get them to come along aswell. Should be a good day. See you there!
