AUGUST
2005
23/08/05 :
Well, The Whitby Run went pretty successfully overall. What an excellent day! 95 scooters were counted at The Stakesby Arms in Whitby and that's not
counting the folk who didn't make it to Whitby for whatever reason. Apologies to the riders who got left behind in Wakefield
but these people were clearly in the minority, nevertheless I did what I could personally both before the rideout and during
it to ensure that everything went smoothly. The weather was brilliant, couldn't have asked for better conditions. Thanks to
Whitby S.C. for doing a sterling job with the marshalling between Pickering and Whitby. The barbecue, live band and beer made
a big difference this year. As always you had to be there to experience the buzz of it all.
So, a big thanks to everyone who attended and that's what really makes an event like this work and makes the effort of
organising such a thing worthwhile. Thanks to all the lads including Bez, Lee, Soeley, Phil and Rich for doing the
marshalling from Wakefield. Thanks to Cuckoo and the lads at Whitby S.C. and The Stakesby Arms for their hospitality. Will there
be another Whitby Run... Who knows? Watch this space...

18/08/05 :
As promised a map for Whitby Run attendees is now available. The reason for producing a map is simple. A few riders got lost actually in Whitby last year, so the purpose of this map
is to show riders where we intend to park upon arrival in Whitby. The actual route from Wakefield is pretty straightforward
so I've not gone into much detail with that.
A hi-res 300dpi printable version of the map can be downloaded here (PC users: right-click on the link and save to disk):
300dpi Whitby Run Map (print version)
On the map you will see two parking destinations. The reason why there are two is if Parking Destination Number 1 (the
area surrounding Scotch Head Bandstand) isn't suitable (i.e. there are too many bikes or there simply isn't enough space),
then we will attempt to park up at Destination Number 2 which is just at the top of West Cliff where Captain Cook's Monument
can be found along with the Whale Bones. These are landmarks in Whitby and can't be missed and there should hopefully be plenty
of space for everyone to park there. The only downside to this spot is that there's loads of steps down to the seafront
(Fish & Chip shops / amusements etc.). The downside being when you've got to come back up them!
As planned, after a one hour break at Whitby, the plan then is to move on to The Stakesby Arms where Whitby S.C. are
putting on a barbecue and music for all Whitby Run attendees. TAG magazine will also be present at
The Stakesby Arms and will be handing out some freebies.
So if you're going on The Whitby Run download the map and print it out for safe-keeping, or you can collect one from me in the morning of the run.
17/08/05 :
Not long to go now for this years Whitby Run / Italjet Dragster.com annual scooter ride-out! Yep, it's this weekend (Sunday 21st August). If you haven't already looked, full
details about the event can be found here on the site. Official Whitby Run t-shirts are still available, and can be found here at the Cafepress.com website. N.B. That
these are available for on-line purchase only and cannot be purchased on the day of the run. However, official Whitby Run stickers and patches can be purchased
on the day.
N.B. That the departure time from Pugneys Country Park in Wakefield on the day of the run will be 9am prompt. If you're late then you'll have
to make your own way to Whitby or try to catch up with the group. Once in Whitby, the rendezvous will be one of two places, the Scotch Head Bandstand situated
in front of the pier on the west side of the harbour. If, upon our arrival in Whitby, that area is too busy then we will park up at the top of West Cliff by the Whale Bones
and Captain Cook's Monument. As it is bound to be busy in Whitby as this is the start of Whitby Folk Week then the rendezvous point will more than likely
be the top of West Cliff. This is easy to get to from the bandstand, just follow the road to the top. After a one hour break at Whitby seafront, the next
rendezvous point will be The Stakesby Arms situated on Byland Road just a few minutes ride from the seafront. Maps for the location of this pub will be available for download shortly and from me
on the morning of the run. So if you do get lost along the way you should be able to find us in Whitby.
Once at The Stakesby Arms, Whitby S.C. have organised a barbecue for hungry scooterists after the 80 mile ride to the coast. Representatives from TAG magazine who are
supporting The Whitby Run along with F.A.S.T. (The Federation of Automatic Scooterists) will also be present and will be handing out freebies. So all in all,
The Whitby Run 2005 promises to be a worthwhile day out for all scooter riders. Remember that this is a scooter rideout for ALL scooter riders, not just
auto riders. So if you're planning on going on The Whitby Run, see you on Sunday!
