EXHAUSTS
- there are an increasing number of exhausts to choose from nowadays which the manufacturers claim give increases in performance. It is commonly believed that fitting a performance exhaust is the ideal first stage in tuning. However, most performance pipes only give an increase in power if used in conjunction with other performance parts - this is something to be aware of. In which case don't be disappointed if the exhaust you just splashed out on doesn't deliver more power straight away or as the manufacturer said it would. Some pipes (not all) require other modifications to be undertaken such as re-jetting your carb or fitting lighter rollers.
Here's a run-down of what's currently available for the Dragster and our findings are based upon the collective opinions of various owners worldwide:
Arrow 'Kompress Series'
- renowned race-pipe manufacturer, has had some good reports from owners. A hand-made pipe offering good value for money. Suitable for stock
Dragster 50s.
Arrow 'Limited Series'
- designed for the 70cc kitted Dragster 50 with oversize carb, ideal for racing, manufactured in limited numbers, features a carbon kevlar silencer finished
in clear heat-resistant paint.
Fabrizio Fresca
- comes into it's own with Malossi 172cc kitted Dragster's. Loses power at low engine speeds but gives stronger top-end speed than the stock pipe.
The quality of finish is not the best.
Giannelli
- improves top-end speed with a bit more noise than the standard pipe and far lighter in weight. A popular choice for 50cc owners with no bad reports to date.
The Giannelli 'Freeway' is also available which will fit Dragster 125s.
Ixil 'Twin' - dual chrome mufflers, fits the Dragster 50, performance-wise found to be better than the Ninja 'Twin'.
Janspeed - this prototype Lotus designed pipe looks more
like a four-stroke exhaust. All but pipe dreams.
Jolly Motto
- a lesser known Italian made exhaust. Similar looking to PM Tuning's PM 55.
Works with Dragster 125s/180s.
Nikon
- will fit Dragster 125/180, completely hand made, weighs less than 2kg and Nikon claim the pipe gives
atleast a 10% power increase.
Ninja 'Twin'
- great-looking pipe but poor performance sadly. Some owners have reverted back to the standard exhaust since the 'Twin' seemed to give little added power. Looks the biz on Dragster 50's though.
PM Tuning 'PM55 Mk.II'
- popular hand-made pipe which enhances performance across the speed range for tuned 125s (kitted upto 172cc's) / 180s. Plenty of 'grunt', one of the noisier pipes... |
PM Tuning 'PM58 X-Tech Pro'
- radical-looking performance pipe intended for tuned 180s / 172cc kitted engines.
Found to be detrimental in performance on stock 125s. |
Scorpion
- good quality pipe with a choice of stainless steel, carbon-fibre and
titanium mufflers, also comes with a lifetime guarantee.
Tecnigas
- proven performance increases on Dragster 50s. Competitively priced but build quality could be improved slightly.
